INVASION OF POLAND (September 1939)

The Invasion of Poland was a one-sided aggression from Germany on Poland starting on the 1st of September in 1939 and lasting one month and five days. The German forces, which greatly outnumbered the polish forces, invaded from the north, south, and west. The Germans were at a huge advantage. All the Polish could do was retreat to the southeast where they hunkered down and waited for support from their allies, France and the United Kingdom, who had declared war on Germany two days after the initial attack. Unfortunately support from France and the UK was limited, and Germany annexed western Poland and exiled the current government. Sovieitization immediately began, i.e. staged elections. The citizens of Poland did not give up after the invasion; many joined the resistance loyal to the Polish government in Exile.
The Invasion of Poland was a red flag to the rest of the world. The flag said “Hey, the soviets are a real problem, Hitler is mad; he’s trying to take over the world!” Actions like this led to the world policeman international policies America had at the time.
